After an intense four-map title decider at the BLAST Premier Spring Final, Spirit were able to secure the victory over Natus Vincere for their second S-Tier tournament win of the year and a perfect season-ender in London. Teenage prodigy Danil “donk” Kryshkovets was recognized as the tournament’s MVP by HLTV, making it the fourth such award he has earned in his career and his third this year alone.
Following their Spring Final championship, donk sat down with Liam “Slevo” Slevin of Rush B Media to discuss the result, how Spirit is handling outside perception, and their plans moving forward after the upcoming player break.
You have conquered NAVI in comfortable fashion in the best of five. Tell me, finally getting that follow-up championship since Katowice, what were you feeling when you finally lifted the trophy?
Right now? To be honest I am tired. I can’t describe my feelings right now but it is great. It’s great but I cannot describe my feelings.
I was talking to jL yesterday and he was saying that the game plan today to stop you was to double-peek you wherever they could. Did you feel that they were trying to swing you with as many people as possible during the game?
Nah, not really. We were just playing our game and yeah that’s it. I didn’t feel some special preparation for me, I didn’t feel that at all. I was just playing my game, just focusing on playing my game, and communicated with my team and that’s it.
There’s been questions lately in terms of the mentality of Team Spirit, that you guys have choked when you have gotten to semifinals and finals. Do you think winning this championship has put that to rest?
Maybe we are a choke team, maybe not. We will see it in the future. I don’t feel that we are playing worse on the stage than in studio. I am enjoying this time with the team also so we are just enjoying this time that we are playing in the one team, that we are playing on the stage, and that we are playing CS at all. I don’t know what to say, we are enjoying this time and we don’t think about the pressure, we don’t think about pressure.
Now that the season is over, you are moving into the second half of the year and you are up for that number one spot, what are your goals as an individual and as a team for the rest of the year?
As a player, my main goal is to become a better player with every day that I spend time on CS. I want to become better and better every day. The team goal is, I don’t know I just want to win tournaments, I just want to win more tournaments.
