Gen.G Allows CSGO Roster To Seek Offers for 2021

Gen.G is allowing its remaining CS:GO roster of Timothy “autimatic” Ta, Kenneth “koosta” Suen, Hansel “BnTeT” Ferdinand, and coach Chris “Elmapuddy” Tebbit to seek offers heading into 2021, Rush B Media has learned. The organization is evaluating it’s options as the professional Counter-Strike scene remains stymied by the COVID-19 and sweeping changes to the professional scene.

The South Korean – North American organization did not indicate that team performance was a driving issue behind allowing the players to seek options. A Gen.G representative told Rush B Media that the “players aren’t benched and it isn’t VALORANT over CS. We want them to see any offers as we go in to 2021. We recognize that it has been a challenging period for professional CS, and we’re looking at how the scene develops into 2021. In the meantime, we wanted to make sure to minimize the impact on players, so we have allowed them to keep their options open while still under contract with us.” Additionally, “[Gen.G] are willing to waive buyouts if the player[s] wants to go somewhere.”

Gen.G entered CS:GO in December 2019 by signing the core of Damian “daps” Steele, koosta, autimatic, and Elmapuddy from North American organization Cloud9 for an undisclosed fee. Sam “s0m” Oh, now a Valorant star for NRG, would join the team later from Team Envy, with BnTeT filling the last spot as the team’s marquee import from TYLOO. The Flashpoint franchise member organization would initially find success with a victory at one of the only six major international LANs to take place in 2020, by winning Dreamhack Open Anaheim 2020 over FURIA. The team would later take a top six finish at Flashpoint Season 1 and win the first Regional Major Ranking Tournament; ESL One: Road to Rio. Since their last victory, the team has struggled to find form and its only other notable finish would be 2nd at cs_summit 6 Online: North America.

There is some concern regarding the status of Gen.G’s Flashpoint franchise slot, considering the organization paid a reported $2 million to enter into the league just last year as a founding member. A Gen.G representative declined to comment on the status of the slot, which leads to more questions for the status of the league heading into Season 3. If Gen.G were to part ways with their lineup, this would raise serious questions about their ability to meet their commitments towards Flashpoint, which has had a rocky launch in 2020, with FPX notably being unable to field a roster for Flashpoint 2, while c0ntact are looking to part ways with their European lineup after middling performances.
