A year after previously parting with the organization, Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad has agreed to return to the Norway-based Apeks. This follows a complete rebuild of the Scandic roster after the benching, and subsequent release, of 4 of their players in November.
jkaem was most recently part of EXTREMUM, the team he left Apeks for, that notoriously failed to qualify for the PGL Stockholm Major at IEM Fall, losing a grueling BO3 to Evil Geniuses who eventually also went into a rebuilding phase. Although he had a disappointing run with the mostly-Oceanic roster, jkaem looks to bring good experience to his new team. The Norwegian entry-fragger has had experience in orgs such as FaZe Clan and Dignitas, and although his last run in Apeks did not bring much to fruition, this new roster aims to “get into the top 20 and stabilize there” according to Apeks CEO, Denise Anfinnsen.
The organization admit that jkaem’s previous departure from the team in January put them in a “challenging situation” but also that there was a reason for signing him in late-2020 as well as again now in 2022, labelling him a “playmaker [with] a wild x-factor”. Although only being able to take home a single trophy in the form of domestic league Telialigaen during his short stint, jkaem put up an average 1.13 HLTV rating across 55 maps.
The new roster boasts an improved form, even in its currently incomplete state, with in-game leader Asger “AcilioN” Larsen and Tim “nawwk” Jonasson ready to welcome their new entry-fragger. The team has no upcoming tournaments, having been inactive for the last two months, but the two remaining spots on the roster are expected to be filled soon. Commenting on the move, jkaem says the move “[has] been a mixed bag of feelings”, further adding that he “wasn’t sure if this could or would ever happen, but [is] very glad that it did.” Finishing off by adding that he is “pretty stoked about the upcoming year!”
